U.S. Bank Arena | Cincinnati, Ohio
The Mavericks look to pull into a tie for third in the Central Division tonight as they take on the Cyclones. Entering Friday’s action, the top four teams in the Central – currently in playoff position – are separated by only four points. Tonight’s ECHL schedule pits the top team (Toledo) against No. 2 Fort Wayne and also has No. 3 (Cincinnati) hosting fourth-seeded Kansas City. The Mavericks face Toledo Saturday night at Toledo before hosting the Walleye for a weekend triple-header next week.
Coming In Hot
Tonight’s game features the two hottest teams in the Central Division as both teams enter tonight’s game on three-game win streaks. Cincinnati has a record of 8-2-0-0 in its last 10 games, the second-best mark in the ECHL behind only Colorado, and the Mavericks are tied for the third-best record in that span with a 7-3-0-0 mark. Kansas City enters tonight’s game having won six of its last seven games, three of those wins coming on the road.
I’m Lovin It
Mason McDonald has provided the Mavericks with a lift in the blue paint during the recent surge, winning five-straight starts while posting a .910 Save Percentage since December 16. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native has seen his role between the pipes grow since an injury to Tyler Parsons during the first period of a game against Colorado and has answered the call by stopping 256 of 284 shots faced since.
Power Play Rising
The Mavericks currently rank second in the ECHL with a 21-percent conversion rate on the man-advantage, trailing only Wheeling’s 21.4-percent clip. Kansas City is tops in the league at home following a three-for-six performance against Quad City on Saturday, checking in at 21.7-percent, and ranks 10th on the road at 20.5-percent. Kansas City enters tonight’s game with a record of 15-4-0-1 when scoring on the power play and is 11-1-0-0 when outscoring opponents on the man-advantage on the season.
Strength vs. Strength
The Mavericks have excelled on the road this season, coming into tonight’s game with a 13-8-0-0 record away from Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The Cyclones have been strong defending their home ice, owning a record of 11-4-1-0 at U.S. Bank Arena on the year.
